Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has commissioned the nation’s first digital substation with indigenously designed 420kV fibre optical current transformers (FOCTs) and IEC61850 compliant intelligent electronic devices (IEDs).

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), BHEL said, “This milestone showcases our commitment to innovation and self-reliance in the transmission sector.”

The company’s ultra high voltage laboratory is one of the largest screened testing facilities in the world for transformers. This state-of-the-art facility enables us to test and validate our cutting-edge transmission products, ensuring the highest standards of quality and reliability.

“At BHEL, we are proud to be at the forefront of India’s digital transformation in the power sector, and remain dedicated to delivering world-class solutions that drive the nation’s progress,” BHEL said.
