Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has received a limited notice to proceed (LNTP) from Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) relating to the latter’s upcoming Durgapur advanced supercritical thermal power project in West Bengal.
The LNTP, received by BHEL on June 10, 2026, will allow the Central PSU engineering firm to initiate advance engineering and ordering of critical long-lead items under the main plant package of the order.
The main plant package is expected to be awarded by DVC to BHEL on completion of 10 months of the issuance of LNTP, which works out to around April 10, 2027. The value of the order, entailed by the LNTP, is around Rs.90 crore, exclusive of GST.
It may be noted that the present LNTP order is a precursor to the main plant package order that will be placed in due course.
Going by industry standards, the main plant order corresponding to the 1×800-MW main plant package should be in the range of Rs.3,500 crore to Rs.4,000 crore.
According to information available with tndindia.com, DVC has proposed to put up three supercritical units of 800-MW each at its various thermal power plants. While one would be put up at the Durgapur plant, as discussed in this story, two will come up at the Koderma plant in Jharkhand, under the Phase-II expansion programme.
Meanwhile, BHEL is also associated with DVC with respect to the steam generator (boiler) package of 2×660-MW Raghunathpur thermal power project (Phase II) in West Bengal.
