Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has announced the winning of an EPC order valued at over Rs.21,000 crore for a supercritical thermal power project in Uttar Pradesh.
In a regulatory disclosure, BHEL said that this order has been placed by Meja Urja Nigam Pvt Ltd – a joint venture between NTPC Ltd and state power utility Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (UPRVUNL).
The EPC order relates to the 3×800-MW Meja supercritical thermal power project (stage-II) located in Prayagraj district, Uttar Pradesh.
Won through international competitive bidding, the EPC mandate covers design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, construction, erection, testing and commissioning of the EPC package.
The date of notification of award (NoA) stands at June 4, 2026 and the order is scheduled for completion in 70 months from the date of NoA.
The contract value of over Rs.21,000 crore is exclusive of GST, BHEL said.
Meja power project
Incorporated in 2008, Meja Urja Nigam Pvt Ltd, a 50:50 joint venture between NTPC and UPRUVNL, currently owns and operates a 2×600-MW coal-based thermal power plant in Uttar Pradesh. The aforementioned EPC contract placed on BHEL represents the Stage-II expansion plan of the existing plant.
The power generated by the 2×600-MW plant is supplied mainly to Uttar Pradesh along with the states of Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Punjab, J&K, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana.
The power-station is connected to the intrastate grid by way of two 400kV double-circuit lines of state transco Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (UPPTCL) and to the ISTS grid using one 400kV double-circuit line of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL), according to information available on Meja Urja’s official website.
