Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has won a major order from NTPC for setting up the Singrauli thermal power project (Stage-III of 2×800 mw) in Uttar Pradesh.

In a stock exchange filing, BHEL said that on March 5, 2024, NTPC issued the letter of award to BHEL for the EPC package of the upcoming Singrauli thermal power project (Stage-III of 2×800 mw) in Sonebhadra district, Uttar Pradesh.

The order value is estimated at over Rs.9,500 crore, excluding GST.

The EPC mandate will cover supply of equipment, erection & commissioning and civil works. The major equipment would include the BTG (boiler, turbine & generator) package and associated auxiliaries along with electrical package, control & instrumentation (C&I) and balance of plant.

The first unit of the 2×800-mw plant is scheduled for completion in 50 months and the second unit four months thereafter.

In an earlier communication, BHEL had said that had submitted its price bid for the contract on December 21, 2023 and was the only bidder.

Meanwhile, the board of directors of NTPC Ltd, in its meeting on March 3, 2024, accorded investment approval to the Singrauli thermal power project (Stage III) of 2×800-mw at an appraised current estimated cost of Rs.17,195.31 crore.

Located in Sonebhadra district of Uttar Pradesh, the Singrauli thermal power project currently has installed capacity of 2,000 mw spread over five units of 200 mw and two of 500 mw, commissioned between 1982 and 1987.
