The Union ministry of new & renewable energy has set a target of 30 GW for offshore wind installations by 2030. The interim target is 5 GW by 2022.
The ministry of new and renewable energy has issued a National Wind-Solar Hybrid Policy. The objective of the policy is to provide a framework for promotion of large grid connected wind-solar PV hybrid system for efficient utilization of transmission infrastructure and land. It also aims at reducing the variability in renewable power generation and achieving better grid stability, a government release said.
Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has received an EPC order from Sembcorp Green Infra Ltd to build a 300-mw wind farm in Gujarat. The order, of unspecified value, also involves maintenance of the asset for a 10-year period. The project is scheduled for completion by April 2019. The wind farm will be connected to India’s Interstate Transmission System (ISTS) and supply power to multiple states.
Avaada Power Pvt. Ltd has partnered with Andhra Pradesh to develop 500 mw worth of utility-scale solar projects. To this effect, Avaada plans to invest Rs.3,500 crore in the state. The agreement was signed at “CII Partnership Summit 2018” held in Visakhapatnam.
Nodal agency Solar Energy Corporation of India has completed the auction of 2 GW of ISTS-connected wind projects under the third round of auction. The lowest tariff quoted by developers was Rs.2.44 per kwh, which is Rs.0.20 per kwh lower than the tariff seen in the second round.

Suzlon Group along with its associates, under the guidance from Chennai-based National Institute of Ocean Technology and approvals through National Institute of Wind Energy (also based in Chennai), have installed their first Operational Offshore LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) based wind measurement station in the Arabian Sea, south west of Jakhau port in Kutch, Gujarat. The met station is expected to collect data for a period of two years.
