Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is exploring the involvement of Central transmission utility Power Grid Corporation of India for implementing the southern state’s mega project “Transgrid-2.0”. According to reliable reports, KSEB wants to involve PGCIL in any one of the following three modes:
GE has announced that it has recently commissioned the second pole of the ±800kV UHVDC Champa-Kurukshetra transmission system. This marks the completion of the first phase of the project. The two-phase project, owned by Power Grid Corporation of India, aims to transfer up to 6,000 mw of electricity from Chhattisgarh in eastern to northern India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on September 25, 2017, launched a new scheme “Saubhagya” (Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana) to ensure electrification of all willing households in the country in rural as well as urban areas, by December 31, 2018. As per current estimates, around 4 crore households out of a total of 25 crore are still devoid of an electricity connection.

The Indian electrical equipment industry recently crossed a new milestone when the newly-commissioned National High Power Test Laboratory Pvt Ltd (NHPTL) successfully tested a 765kV power transformer at its Bina test centre in Madhya Pradesh.
A senior official of NHPTL confirmed that NHPTL has successfully commissioned its grid-based 765kV class state-of-the-art Short Circuit Testing Laboratory at Bina, Madhya Pradesh. The first commercial short circuit test on a 765kV class transformer was conducted on September 11, 2017. With respect to online testing, this is indeed the first instance of its kind in the world.
Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) has commissioned the Kala Amb transmission project in Himachal Pradesh. PGCIL had won the project under the tariff-based competitive bidding route, quoting an annualized tariff of 59.43 crore.
