Central power PSUs have announced major investment proposals in Chhattisgarh.

While NTPC has outlined investment of Rs.96,000 crore, SJVN has proposed to invest Rs.9,500 crore. Both the entities have signed MoUs with Chhattisgarh state government entities for building non-fossil based power generation capacities.

NTPC

NTPC signed the following three agreements:

  1. The first MOU was signed between NTPC and Chhattisgarh government for setting up 4,200 MW nuclear capacity in Chhattisgarh at an estimated investment of Rs.80,000 crores.
  2. The second MoU was signed between Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Ltd (CSPGCL) & NTPC, pertaining to an intent to invest approx Rs.5,876 crore in setting up 1,200 MW of Pumped Hydro Storage Project at Sikaser in Gariyaband district of the state.
  3. The third joint venture agreement was signed between NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL) and CSPGCL for setting up renewable energy projects up to 2 GW in the state, at an approximate investment of Rs.10,000 crore which will help in meeting renewable generation obligation (RGO) of CSPGCL as well as renewable purchase obligation (RPO) of the Chhattisgarh state discom.

SJVN

SJVN has signed an MoU with the Government of Chhattisgarh and CSPGCL for the development of 1,800 MW Pumped Storage Project (PSP) at Kotpali in Chhattisgarh. Total investment for the project is estimated at Rs.9500 crore, with direct and indirect employment benefits expected for 5,000 people during its development phase. The Kotpali PSP is a off-stream closed-loop type PSP in Balrampur district of Chhattisgarh with an installed capacity of 1,800 MW designed to generate energy around 3,967 MU.

All the aforementioned agreements were signed at the “Chhattisgarh Energy Investors Summit-2025” recently held at capital city Raipur.
