Dr Beatrix Natter, CEO of Siemens Transformers

I am convinced that digitally-connected transformers will become the norm and that the Sensformer® will replace the transformer like the smart phone has replaced the cell phone.

We want the Sensformer® to become a synonym for all of these new products. But we also believe that we are service providers to the transformer operators. This is why we do not want to dictate a digital platform everyone has to use. And we definitely have no plans to sell our technology to other suppliers.

In the power transformer class, the transition to Sensformer® this has already happened. All future units will be Sensformers®. In the unlikely case that a customer does not want to make use of this option, they can simply choose not to activate it. We can again compare this to the smart phone: It comes with a lot of features, but for example if you do not want to use the Bluetooth function, then you can simply choose not activate it. To cut a long story short: From our side, all future products come fully equipped to act as an eye to the grid.
