The foundation stone for the Lakhisarai substation extension project in Bihar was laid at the hands of Union power minister, R.K. Singh.

A government release noted that the Union power minister laid the foundation stone for Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd’s (PGCIL) 400/132kV Lakhisarai substation extension project on August 18, 2023.

As part of the project, a new 220kV GIS will be constructed in the existing substation premises along with the installation of two transformers with 500 MVA capacity, each.

This substation extension will significantly improve electricity availability in the region and will ultimately benefit the entire state of Bihar, the release observed.

The extension of the substation at Lakhisarai will lead to improved power availability in Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura, Munger and Jamui districts and will also ease supply of power to meet future energy demand.

The installation of state-of-the-art GIS technology of 220kV voltage level in Lakhisarai sub-station will further strengthen the connectivity of the region to the national grid. The provision of uninterrupted power supply will also lead to industrial and commercial development of the region, the release added.
