Four developers have technically qualified for opening of initial price bids of an interstate transmission system (ISTS) scheme in Madhya Pradesh.
It is reliably learnt that bid process coordinator PFC Consulting Ltd, based on technical bids of the bidders, has prequalified Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL), Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL), G R Infraprojects Ltd (GRIL) and Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL), for opening of initial price bids relating to an ISTS-TBCB scheme housed under “MEL Transmission Ltd.”
Formally referred to as “Transmission system for evacuation of power from Mahan Energen Ltd generating station in Madhya Pradesh,” this ISTS-TBCB scheme is estimated to cost Rs.558 crore and has an envisaged completion timeframe of 30 months.
The scheme involves providing ISTS connectivity to the existing 1,200-MW Mahan thermal power plant owned by Mahan Energen Ltd, a subsidiary of Adani Power Ltd. It may be mentioned that the Mahan plant already has ISTS connectivity, but it is on short-term basis under CERC, Connectivity/LTA Regulations, 2009. The project under discussion will provide full-fledged connectivity under CERC, GNA Regulations.
Towards this, a 400kV double-circuit line from Mahan power plant (existing bus) to Rewa Pooling Station of PGCIL will be put up. The project also includes two 400kV line bays at Rewa PS for termination of the aforementioned line. Mahan Energen Ltd, on its part, will be putting up two 400kV line bays at the existing bus of the Mahan power plant.
Interestingly, the Mahan power plant is also involved in an intrastate transmission system (InSTS) scheme that is housed under “Mahan Transmission Ltd,” currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of bid process coordinator REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL). The scheme relates to the expansion of the existing Mahan power plant by 2×800-MW.
This InSTS-TBCB scheme is formally referred to as “Development of intrastate transmission system for evacuation of 1,230 MW power (MPPMCL portion) through STU network from proposed 2×800-MW thermal power project of Mahan Energen Ltd (MEL).”
Four bidders – PGCIL, AESL, MEIL and KCC Buildcon – have qualified for opening of initial price bids of “Mahan Transmission Ltd” as reported by T&D India on February 19, 2025.
