Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) along with three biggest private sector developers are in the fray for an intrastate transmission system (InSTS) scheme taking shape in the Pune region of Maharashtra.
It is reliably learnt that PGCIL, Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL), Resonia (formerly Sterlite Grid32) and Tata Power have qualified, on the basis of their technical bids, for opening of initial price bids.
This intrastate scheme, being awarded under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) route, is housed under “Jejuri Hinjewadi Power Transmission Ltd,” currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of bid process coordinator REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL).
This InSTS-TBCB scheme is officially termed as “Network expansion scheme in Maharashtra for removal of transmission constraints in Pune region & providing supply to data centre loads” and has a gestation period of 18 months from the date of SPV transfer.
The basic objective of the scheme is to create an additional source point to the 400kV network in the Pune Ring Main in order to address transmission constraints therein, leading to improved reliability of the state’s power transmission infrastructure in the Pune Ring Main.
The project consists of putting up a 400kV double-circuit lines connecting two existing 400kV GIS substations – Jejuri and Hinjewadi. The line will have a transfer capacity of 2,000 MW, it is learnt. Besides, four 400kV line bays – two each at Jejuri and Hinjewadi substations – also form part of the project.
The Jejuri-Hinjewadi scheme will be the second intrastate scheme in Maharashtra that is expected to be awarded in the coming weeks. As reported by T&D India on July 18, 2025, RECPDCL has shortlisted seven contenders for the Velgaon scheme.
RECPDCL has also initiated the bidder selection process for another InSTS-TBCB scheme in Maharashtra, incorporated under Umred Power Transmission Ltd. There are two more schemes – Jalna Power Transmission and Sakoli Power Transmission – for which RECPDCL has been named bid process coordinator but for which bidding has yet to commence.
While RECPDCL is currently handling a total of five InSTS-TBCB scheme in Maharashtra, PFC Consulting Ltd (PFCCL) is mandated with an equal number. With respect to PFFCL’s five Maharashtra-centric schemes, bidding has begun for four but shortlisting of bidders is awaited.
