GE T&D India has reported a 26.3 percent year-on-year growth in its new order bookings for FY23.
In a release, GE T&D India said that new order bookings during FY23 stood at Rs.2,735.9 crore as against Rs.2,166.6 crore in FY22.
The company won several major orders during the fiscal year 2022-23 from central utilities, state utilities, and private developers, the release said. Domestic orders had a share of 65 percent in GE T&D India’s total order inflow of FY23.
Modernizing India’s grid
According to Sandeep Zanzaria, Managing Director & CEO of GE T&D India, “In the financial year 2022-23, we made remarkable progress in modernizing India’s grid infrastructure and supporting the nation’s renewable energy targets. Our unwavering commitment to transforming India’s energy landscape has been exemplified through key wins and successful project executions.
In addition to commissioning multiple air-insulated and gas-insulated substations with various medium to high ratings, we supplied critical large equipment such as 765kV and 400kV transformers and reactors for numerous substation projects led by private and public utilities. These projects and installations play a crucial role in strengthening the country’s transmission infrastructure and meeting the ever-increasing energy demands.”

Order backlog
As of March 31, 2023, GE T&D India’s order backlog stood at Rs.3699.5 crore. Private sector clients accounted for 70 percent of this order value, followed by Central utilities and PSUs with 16 percent, and state utilities with 14 percent share.
Performance in Q4 of FY23
During Q4 (January to March) of FY23, GE T&D India recorded new order bookings of Rs.870.6 crore, up 58.3 percent from Rs.549.9 crore in the corresponding quarter of FY22. Some key orders booked in Q4 of FY23 are:
- Upgradation and automation of 39 substations in Nepal by Nepal Electricity Authority, including setting up of six master control centers with GE Digital technologies
- Order from large private transmission company for the supply of 765kV, 110 MVAR reactors for substations in Narendra (Karnataka) and Pune (Maharashtra)
- Order from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) for the supply of 765 kV reactors for the utility’s project in Narela (NCT Delhi)
The GE T&D India release also highlighted some key projects commissioned during Q4 of FY23. Some of these were:
- Installation of a 66kV gas insulated switchgear (GIS) system with 8 bays, 11kV high voltage panels, 2×25 MVA transformers, and associated civil works for Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd at Bhalaswa.
- GE’s first 220kV gas-insulated substation in Bhutan for Bhutan Power Corporation. This GIS will play a crucial role in meeting the critical power requirements of the capital of Bhutan and its surrounding areas.
- Installation of a 66kV GIS system with 14 bays, along with associated 66kV cable laying and termination works. The substation will cater to the load requirements of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC)
- Ten transformers, with a combined capacity of 1,205 MVA, were successfully commissioned for various project sites
- SCADA system for TP Southern Odisha Distribution Ltd (TPSODL) enabling the monitoring of approximately 100 distribution substations
