Grew Energy plans mega solar cell manufacturing unit in J&K

Grew Energy, part of the Chiripal Group, has planned to set up a mega manufacturing unit in Jammu & Kashmir, for manufacturing solar cells and high-efficiency solar modules.

In a release, Grew Energy said that it would be the first renewable energy company to set up a manufacturing facility in the UT of Jammu & Kashmir.

With a commitment to invest Rs.4,500 crore till completion, the three-stage fully-backward integrated facility will have annual capacity to produce 3.2 GW of high-efficiency solar modules, and 2.8 GW of ingots, wafers and cells.

Located in Kathua, the high-tech facility will be as per international standards with world-class automated machinery, making Grew the first solar company in India to have such unique technology and a cutting-edge manufacturing facility, the release said.

 

The company conducted a groundbreaking ceremony on May 10, 2024, where Vinay Thadani, CEO & Director, Grew Energy; Hardip Singh, COO, Grew Energy and other dignitaries from Chiripal Group – Vedprakash Chiripal, Jyoti Prasad Chiripal, Jaiprakash Chiripal and Brijmohan Chiripal were present. Spread over a total area of 80 acres, this facility will enable Grew to meet the future demands for the growing solar needs of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, other neighbouring states and the country at large. The company will also drive positive change to empower communities, boost employment opportunities and up-skilling the youth of the state, the release noted.

 

Aiming at 6 GW module capacity

According to Vinay Thadani, CEO & Director, Grew Energy, “As we embark on this transformative journey, we at Grew are grateful to the Government for the welcome and being so supportive. The new plant will not only add to the socio-economic development of the state but it will also play a pivotal role in meeting India’s net zero target. It will also help in creating employment opportunities for the people of Jammu & Kashmir. With establishment of our Kathua facility and our existing 2.8 GW module manufacturing facility in Jaipur, Rajasthan, Grew will achieve a total of 6 GW manufacturing capacity for modules and 2.8 GW for solar components by FY25.”
