Hindustan Power has been awarded a letter of intent by Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd (BSPGCL) for developing standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) in Bihar.
In a release, Hindustan Power said that the 120 MWh BESS will be put across three grid substations of Bihar:
The project, awarded under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) modality, will be implemented on a BOOT (build, own, operate & transfer) basis.
The scheduled commissioning date for the full capacity is set for 18 months from the effective date of the Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA).
As part of the Union Ministry of New & Renewable Energy’s approved 500 MWh battery energy storage system project in Bihar, this initiative will not only ensure an uninterrupted and high-quality power supply but also help balance demand and supply during peak hours, the release noted.
Commenting on the development, Ratul Puri, Chairman of Hindustan Power, said, “We are pleased to join hands with the Government of Bihar on this project, which aims to create a more flexible, sustainable, and consumer-centric power infrastructure in the state. This partnership reflects our commitment to technological innovation and environmental responsibility. It is a progressive step toward building a cleaner energy future, and we remain dedicated to supporting the state’s clean energy ambitions.”
It may be recalled that Navi Mumbai-based Prostarm Info Systems Ltd very recently announced that it has won 120-MWh capacity under the same BSPGCL tender. (See full T&D India story dated June 17, 2025)
