Hitachi Energy, on July 15, 2025, flagged off India’s first 400kV class, 315 MVA rating, three-phase synthetic ester fluid-filled power transformer for Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL).

This occasion marks a significant milestone in sustainable, high-performance power solutions. With this flag-off, Hitachi Energy in India reaffirms its commitment to innovation and sustainability and paves the way for the country’s next-generation, clean grid infrastructure, a release from Hitachi Energy said.

Superior energy efficiency

Engineered for future-ready performance, these transformers operate at higher temperatures, support greater load capacities, leading to reduced operational costs, superior energy efficiency, and safety from fire hazards which could get triggered at that temperature.

Reinforcing leadership

The ester fluid-filled transformer stands out as the largest-of-its-kind in India, both in terms of kV class and MVA rating, and reinforces Hitachi Energy’s leadership in advanced, eco-conscious technology along with enhanced safety. Developed and manufactured entirely based on Hitachi Energy’s TrafostarTM global platform and at the state-of-the-art power transformers manufacturing facility in Maneja, Vadodara, the transformer represents a significant stride toward ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ in the energy sector.

Three-way advantage

Ester fluid-filled transformers offer a robust trifecta of safety, environmental responsibility, and performance. Ester fluid, with a high flash point of around 330°C, significantly reduces fire hazards in the transformer. Its biodegradable fluid minimizes environmental risks, making it an ideal choice for sensitive or high-density installations.
