India Grid Trust (IndiGrid) has won an interstate transmission system (ISTS) scheme under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) route. The scheme is housed under project SPV “Kallam Transco Ltd.”

In a stock exchange communication, REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL) said that it has transferred the project SPV “Kallam Transco Ltd” to IndiGrid, on April 5, 2024.

In this scheme, IndiGrid was represented by a consortium of “IndiGrid 2 Ltd” and “IndiGrid 1 Ltd,” both subsidiaries of IndiGrid.

Kallam Transco Ltd was incorporated as a wholly-owned subsidiary of RECPDCL, in turn a wholly-owned subsidiary of REC Ltd. Kallam Transco will now cease to be a subsidiary of RECPDCL, the filing said.

According to information available with T&D India, IndiGrid won this project quoting a tariff of Rs.152.50 million, being the levelized annual transmission charges. Three other contenders (names unknown) were in the final race with IndiGrid.

The ISTS project to be developed by Kallam Transco Ltd is officially referred to as “Western Region network expansion scheme in Kallam area of Maharashtra” and is scheduled for completion in 18 months.

The project, among other things, will involve setting up of a 15-km LILO of both circuits of the 400kV Parli-Karjat double-circuit line at the Kallam pooling station (PS). It will also entail four 400kV line bays (AIS) at the Kallam PS end. (Read more)

RE evacuation in Kallam Area

IndiGrid is associated with RE evacuation in Kallam area in Maharashtra’s Osmanabad district through three schemes – Kallam Transmission Ltd (TBCB), Kallam Transmission Ltd (RTM) and Kallam Transco (TBCB). Together, they will facilitate 3.25 GW of wind energy evacuation through a mixture of 400kV and 220kV transmission infrastructure.

It may be mentioned that Kallam Transmission Ltd recently commissioned its TBCB project. This was IndiGrid’s first greenfield ISTS-TBCB project that it had won in December 2021.

The RTM component of Kallam Transmission Ltd is reportedly underway and is expected to commission in the coming months.

IndiGrid’s ISTS-TBCB portfolio

In addition to the newly awarded Kallam Transco Ltd, IndiGrid’s ISTS-TBCB portfolio includes Kallam Transmission Ltd, Dhule Power Transmission Ltd and Ishanagar Power Transmission Ltd. The latter two were officially transferred by the bid process coordinator RECPDCL to IndiGrid in February 2024.
