IntelliSmart Infra has established a Centre of Excellence for Smart Metering in Dadri, Uttar Pradesh.
This first-of-its-kind training centre will impart free of cost job-ready skills and capabilities to the youth in the installation and configuration of Distribution Transformer (DT) meters, a key component in enhancing grid intelligence and operational efficiency, a release by IntelliSmart said.
The Centre of Excellence was inaugurated by Sanjay Jain, Chief Engineer, Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (PVVNL), Noida, and Anil Rawal, MD & CEO, IntelliSmart Infrastructure. Senior discom officials were present on the occasion.
The DT meter installation process is technically complex and high-risk, necessitating skilled and certified professionals. The DT meter installation is facing a significant shortage of trained manpower, hindering India’s momentum of power sector digitalisation. As part of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), India is mandated to install 25 crore smart meters in the next 24 months. To date, 3.15 crore meters (DT, feeder and consumers meters) have been installed. To expedite DT meter deployment, there is an urgent need to build a trained workforce.
The DT meter is a critical node in the power distribution network, and installing smart meters at DT locations is essential for improving load management and system reliability. IntelliSmart’s Centre of Excellence will train and certify participants in the latest advancements in DT smart metering technology, enabling them to meet the evolving demands of the energy sector.
Speaking about the Centre of Excellence, Smt Isha Duhan, MD of PVVNL, said, “As the power sector rapidly evolves with the adoption of digital and smart technologies, it is imperative to train our youth with the right skills and capabilities. Training centres like this contribute to nation-building by creating a workforce that is future-ready. I congratulate IntelliSmart for taking this initiative to empower youth through job-linked capacity building.”
Speaking at the inauguration, Anil Rawal, MD & CEO, IntelliSmart, said, “This first-of-its-kind training program is our sincere attempt to address the talent shortage that India’s smart metering industry is currently facing. The course isabsolutely free of cost, and anyone can join the training from any part of the country, which would entitle the youth for assuring jobs for themselves in the company. This is our commitment to capability building in the smart metering ecosystem.”
