The total volume of interregional electricity transfer was up 4.4 per cent year-on-year during the first nine months (9M: April to December) of FY24.
According to latest statistics released by Grid Controller of India (GRID-INDIA), the total electricity transfer between the five regional grids was 1,84,141 MU (million units or million kwh or Gwh) during 9MFY24 as compared with 1,76,457 MU in 9MFY23.
During 9MFY24, exports from WR to NR (denoted as WR-NR) continued to be the biggest interregional exchange component, accounting for 31 per cent of the total interregional exchange between the five regional grids – NR, ER, WR, NER and SR. The next biggest component was WR-SR, representing 14.2 per cent of the total interregional exchange volume.
NR was a net importer to the tune of 59,994 MU. Exports from NR during 9MFY24 declined 15.1 per cent year-on-year, while imports grew by 1.1 per cent by the same comparison. NR was also the biggest net importing region.
NER continued to remain a net exporter in 9MFY24, albeit to a smaller extent of 919 MU compared with 2,149 MU in 9MFY24. NER witnessed a 21.5 per cent year-on-year decline in exports, complemented by a 12.6 per cent increase in imports.
