IRCON International emerges L1 for two railway electrification packages

According to unconfirmed reports, IRCON International Ltd has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for two railway electrification projects of National Capital Region Transport Corporation Ltd.
The two packages relate to works on the Delhi Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) Corridor.
The first package, for which IRCON’s bid of Rs.317.80 crore was the lowest, relates to design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of receiving substations (including 25kV AC traction cum 33kV auxiliary main substations), EHV and HV cabling, 25kV overhead equipment and other related works on the viaduct and tunnel from Sarai Kale Khan to Duhai. It also includes SCADA system for the complete corridor of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS project.
The second package, with IRCON’s financial bid at Rs.404.94 crore, relates to similar work on the Duhai-Modipuram stretch.
Some other technically-qualified contenders for the two packages whose financial bids were opened included Larsen & Toubro, Sterling and Wilson (in joint venture with STS) and a joint venture of Siemens and KEC International.
The tenders for these two packages were invited in January 2020, and the technical bids were opened in late June 2020. The financial bids were opened last week.
NCR RRTS
The Delhi Meerut RRTS Corridor, being implemented by National Capital Region Transport Corporation Ltd envisages a 82.15-km railway link connecting Delhi to Meerut, via Ghaziabad, through 16 stations.
This is the first of the three corridors being developed under Phase-1 of the rapid transit system envisaged for the National Capital Region. The remaining two corridors in Phase-1 are Delhi-Gurugram-SNB-Meerut corridor and the Delhi-Panipat corridor.
In subsequent phases, more corridors, including Delhi-Faridabad-Ballabgarh-Palwal, Ghaziabad-Khurja, Ghaziabad-Hapur, etc, will be taken up.
