IRCON International Ltd has won a Rs.458-crore from North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO) for civil works relating to the upcoming Tato-I hydropower project.
In a regulatory filing, IRCON International said that the order, valued at Rs.458.14 crore (inclusive of taxes), relates to civil works at NEEPCO’s upcoming Tato-I hydropower project in Arunachal Pradesh, and is scheduled for completion in 45 months.
The order is officially termed as “Package-I: Construction of civil works on item rate for Tato-I hydro electric project, Arunachal Pradesh, comprising of head works & allied works, head race channel, head race pipe, intake, headrace tunnel, surge shaft, pressure shaft, valve house, power house & allied works and Infrastructure works.”
In November 2024, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), approved the investment proposal for construction of the 186-MW Tato-I hydropower project in Shi Yomi district of Arunachal Pradesh, with an outlay of Rs.1,750 crore and an implementation timeframe of 50 months.
The 3×62-MW is designed to produce 802 million units (MU or million kwh) of electricity per year, and is expected to improve power availability in Arunachal Pradesh.
The project will be implemented through a joint venture company between North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO) and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. Government of India shall extend Rs.77.37 crore as budgetary support for construction of roads, bridges and associated transmission line under enabling infrastructure besides Central Financial Assistance (CFA) of Rs.120.43 crore towards equity share of Arunachal Pradesh.
The state would benefit from 12 per cent free power and another 1 per cent towards Local Area Development Fund (LADF) besides significant infrastructure improvement and socio-economic development of the region. There will be significant improvement in infrastructure, including the development of around 10 km of roads and bridges, for the project which shall be mostly available for local use.
