KEC International to build India’s first 765kV digital substation, for PGCIL

KEC International has won an order from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) to build what would be India’s first digital substation.

In a release, the RPG Group company said that the mandate from PGCIL would be to build a 765kV GIS (gas insulated switchgear) substation, which would be the first such in India.

This order, on which no further details were provided, is part of a clutch of orders worth Rs.1,233 crore that KEC International reported having won, across its various businesses.

Commenting on the orders,  Vimal Kejriwal, MD & CEO, KEC International Ltd, noted, “We are pleased with the new order wins, especially the prestigious order from PGCIL, to build India’s first 765kV digital substation. Our Civil business continues to strengthen and diversify its presence in the industrial segment with the addition of a very reputed client. We are also encouraged by the order in the oil and gas pipelines, which further enhances the business’ order book.”

Apart from the aforementioned 765kV substation order from PGCIL, the power T&D business of KEC International won orders for the supply of towers in the Middle East. These order were landed by KEC’s subsidiary in the UAE. Another overseas subsidiary, SAE Towers, won orders for the supply of towers, hardware and poles in the Americas.

The Civil business secured orders for infra works in the Paints and Metals & Mining segments in India, KEC said, adding that the oil & gas pipelines division won a domestic order for laying of a cross-country pipeline and associated works.

The cables business won orders for supply of various types of cables, both in India and abroad, the KEC International release added.
