The newly-won Khavda IV A transmission project has taken the overall transmission portfolio of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) to 21,783 ckm, while the aggregate transformation capacity stands at 61,686 MVA.

In a release, AESL said that “Khavda IV A Power Transmission Ltd” has been formally acquired by AESL from bid process coordinator RECPDCL. AESL won the project under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) route and will develop the ISTS scheme under the build, own, operate & transfer (BOOT) mode with a concession period of 35 years.

The Khavda IVA transmission line, part of National Grid, will help evacuate 7 GW of RE by connecting 765kV double circuit lines from Khavda to Lakadia and Khavda to Bhuj (both in Gujarat) and setting up transformation capacity of 4,500 MVA, AESL said in a release.

The company will invest around Rs.4,091 crore to build the 298-km (596-ckm) transmission project. The project also includes setting up of 300 MVAr STATCOM and 3×1500 MVA, 765/400kV inter-connecting transformers (ICT) with 1×330 MVAr, 765kV and 1×125 MVAr, 420kV bus reactors.

Seamless flow of green energy

“As the world’s largest renewable energy park, Khavda demands power evacuation infrastructure that is not only world-class but also resilient and future-ready,” said Kandarp Patel, Chief Executive Officer, AESL. “This investment will not only establish the critical transmission network required to evacuate the planned 30 GW of green power that Khavda will generate but also provide the much-needed grid stability. AESL is proud to be part of this initiative as this network will play a very important role in the seamless flow of green energy to the national grid, bolstering India’s journey towards net zero.”

Impact on transmission portfolio

The Khavda IV-A project has taken AESL’s overall transmission line portfolio to 21,783 ckm, out of which 3,669 ckm is under construction. Speaking of transformation (substation) capacity, AESL’s overall portfolio currently stands at 61,686 MVA, including 26,071 MVA under construction.

ISTS-TBCB portfolio

According to estimates made by T&D India, AESL currently has six ISTS schemes under the TBCB route, which are currently under construction. These schemes are housed under the following SPVs: North Karanpura Transco Ltd, WRSR Power Transmission Ltd, Khavda II-A Transmission Ltd, KPS1 Transmission Ltd, Halvad Transmission Ltd and Khavda IV A Power Transmission Ltd. The aggregate transmission infrastructure envisaged by these six schemes is to the tune of 2,487 ckm of transmission lines and 17,500 MVA of substation capacity.
