State power utility Maharashtra State Transmission Company Ltd (MSETCL) recently recorded its highest-ever quantum of power transmitted.

According to a Maharashtra government release, MSETCL recorded power transmission of 25,800 mw at 11:16 am on March 10, 2021.

This, as the release points out, was due to use of latest technologies and preventive maintenance. This record was achieved without any load-shedding, the statement said.

MSETCL is now using infrared thermal cameras and drone cameras for outage management, it is learnt. This has led to technical snags and hotspots getting detected in time. Incidents of breakdowns in the transmission network have reduced resulting in improved availability of power.

Prior to this achievement, the highest quantum of power transmission handled by MSETCL was 24,200 mw – attained on October 22, 2018.

Generation and distribution

The statement also observed that Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Ltd (Mahagenco) recorded its highest-ever generation on March 9, 2021. The quantum was not disclosed though.

The power demand in Maharashtra is on the rise as the state economy is now returning to normalcy. On March 10, 2021, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (Mahavitaran) recorded electricity demand of 22,339 mw. According to statistics released by Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Maharashtra’s peak demand during the period April 1, 2020 to February 28, 2021 was 24,097 mw; this peak was attained during February 2021.
