MPPTCL improves power supply to Orchha with new 132kV infrastructure

Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Ltd (MPPTCL) has created new infrastructure with a view to improving power supply to Orchha – an international tourist destination located in Niwari district.

In a release, MPPTCL said that it has recently commissioned a new 30-km 132kV line (from Prithvipur to Orchha) and a new 132kV substation at Orchha with a view to improving power supply to Orchha.

This important tourist destination and religious city will now receive power at 33kV level from the new Orchha substation, located just 4 km away, instead of a feeder located 30 km away, which was the case hitherto. Besides, the 30-km feeder line passed through dense forests and other topographically-challenging areas, resulting in frequent supply interruptions.

The MPPTCL release noted that about 11,000 consumers of Orchha and Pratappuram, covering a number of tourist and religious destinations, will now get power supply with less interruptions and better voltage profile. The new infrastructure will also help attending to faults with comparatively lesser time.

While the new 132kV Prithvipur-Orchha line was built by Larsen & Toubro, the 132kV Orchha substation was commissioned by Shreem Electric Ltd, the release said. The overall project cost stood at around Rs.34.70 crore.

Challenges overcome

Erecting the 132kV Prithvipur-Orchha line was a challenging task in view of the presence of dense forests and two major rivers – Betwa and Jamni – in the vicinity. A transmission tower had to be built right in the middle of reserved forest area, the release noted. MPPTCL could successfully complete the project thanks to efficient coordination with the Forest Department and the Revenue Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh, the release said.
