State transco Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Ltd (MPPTCL) has targeted to complete all its “Simhastha 2028”-related projects, one year ahead of the mega event.

In a release, MPPTCL said that the utility has been given clear instructions by the state government to complete all works related to Simhastha 2028, at least one year before the event begins in March 2028.

This will allow sufficient time for testing and improvement, so as to ensure stability, reliability and quality of power supply, the release said.

Sunil Tiwari, Managing Director, MPPTCL, is personally monitoring the progress of works on a continuous basis. Senior officials have also been directed to regularly review progress and ensure that all works are completed within the stipulated timeline and as per high-quality standards.

Pradumnya Singh Tomar, Energy Minister, Madhya Pradesh, has expressed confidence that timely completion of all these projects will ensure uninterrupted, high-quality, and reliable power supply in Ujjain during Simhastha-2028, preventing any inconvenience to devotees and the general public arriving from across the country and abroad.

The “Ujjain Simhastha” is a religious congregation held every 12 years in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The upcoming sixth Simhastha is scheduled to take place between March 27, 2028 and May 27, 2028.

Overview of targeted projects

Here is a summary of key projects that will be implemented to ensure adequate availability of quality power during Simhastha 2028.

Chintaman substation

Construction of a 132kV Chintaman substation has been initiated in the first phase. Additionally, line-in-line-out (LILO) work on the Ujjain–Chandrawati Ganj and Depalpur–Chintaman 132kV transmission lines is in progress. Infrastructure works related to the Triveni Vihar area are also progressing rapidly, which will help improve local load management.

Shankarpur substation

At the 220kV Shankarpur substation in the Ujjain region, the previously installed 20 MVA transformer has been upgraded to a 50-MVA one. This enhancement will significantly increase the area’s power supply capacity and help meet additional demand efficiently.

Tajpur substation

Work is underway to expand the 132kV network at the 400kV Tajpur substation in Ujjain. Under this project, an additional 50 MVA transformer will be installed, along with the development of four new 33kV feeders. This will make the power distribution system more robust, balanced, and reliable during Simhastha-2028.

As reported by tndindia.com on November 19, 2025, MPPTCL’s first 132kV substation – Jyotinagar – completed 65 years of service, and is being continuously maintained to meet power requirements of the upcoming Simhastha 2028.
