NHPC Ltd and PTC India Ltd recently signed an MoU for sale of power to be generated from NHPC’s upcoming West Seti and Seti River-6 hydropower projects in Nepal.

The MoU was signed by Shri A.K. Singh, CMD, NHPC and Dr. Rajib K. Mishra, CMD, PTC India Ltd

As per the MoU, PTC India shall purchase the contracted capacity from NHPC from date of commercial operation of the aforementioned projects for onward sale to state utilities, discoms and bulk consumers on long term basis in India and neighboring countries.

PTC shall also endeavor to sell any untied capacity on medium/short term basis or on power exchanges, as part of the MoU.

Agreement for Dugar HEP

In an independent development, NHPC also recently signed the implementation agreement with Himachal Pradesh government for the 500-mw Dugar hydropower project located in Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh.

It may be recalled that in September 2019, an MoU was signed between NHPC and the Himachal Pradesh government for the Dugar HEP. At that time, the envisaged capacity of the project was 449 mw. However, after detailed survey & investigation and techno-economic studies, NHPC submitted a detailed project report (DPR) envisaging enhanced capacity of 500 mw, to Central Electricity Authority.

The accord of Concurrence to Project was issued by Central Electricity Authority in April 2022. Forest and Environment clearances in respect of the Dugar project are currently in process.

Dugar hydropower will generate 1759.85 million kwh in a 90 per cent dependable year with 95 per cent machine availability.
