PGCIL appoints Abhay Choudhary as Director (Projects)

In a stock exchange filing, Power Grid Corporation of India said that Abhay Choudhary has assumed charge as Director (Projects) of the company, effective November 1, 2020.

Choudhary’s tenure will extend up to June 30, 2024 (the date of his superannuation) or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Prior to this appointment, Abhay Choudhary (56 years) was Executive Director (Commercial & Regulatory Cell) along with charge of CMD Coordination Cell in PGCIL.

He is a an electrical engineering graduate from NIT Durgapur and also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from IMT Ghaziabad. During his career spanning around 35 years in Power Sector, he has worked in various capacities in EHV Sub Stations and Transmission lines, both as an Operation & Maintenance executive as well as a construction engineer. He also served as Executive Director of the North-Eastern Region during 2015-17. Before joining PGCIL in 1991, he was in NTPC for about 6 years.

“He is not related to the Directors or Key Managerial Personnel of the Company and is also not debarred from holding the office of Director by virtue of any SEBI order or any other such authority,” PGCIL noted in the stock exchange filing.

PGCIL also informed that Rajeev Kumar Chauhan has ceased to be Director (Projects) of the company on attaining the age of superannuation on October 31, 2020.

 

PSEB clearance

According to information available from other sources, Abhay Choudhary was recommended for the post by the panel of Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) on July 6, 2020. He was recommended from a list of eight candidates who were interviewed by PESB. Six of these candidates (including Abhay Choudhary) were from PGCIL itself, one was from Indian Railways Service of Engineers (IRSE), and one was from Indian Telecommunication Service (ITS).

Choudhary is well acquainted with working in difficult terrains and extremist infested areas. He has been assigned various challenging tasks during his tenure and was deeply associated with the construction of high capacity transmission corridors in Jharkhand and Odisha along with RGGVY and APDRP projects in Bihar, it is learnt.
