The ‘Committee of Directors on Investment on Projects’ of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL), in its meeting held on June 10, 2025, considered and approved the proposal for implementation of a national network management system.
The project is officially termed as “Establishment of State-of-the-Art National Unified Network Management System (N-UNMS) in main & backup configuration integrating all the regional UNMSs.”
With an estimated cost of Rs.131.68 crore, the N-UNMS is scheduled to commission within 24 months, which is by February 23, 2027. PGCIL said in a brief stock exchange notification.
According to information available with T&D India, the project was approved by National Committee on Transmission (NCT) during its 27th meeting held on February 6, 2025 for implementation by PGCIL under the regulated tariff mechanism (RTM) framework.
Central Transmission Utility of India Ltd (CTUIL) subsequently formally assigned the project to PGCIL on February 24, 2025 with an implementation period of 24 months, which translates to a scheduled commissioning date of February 23, 2027.
The project seeks to facilitate centralized supervision and monitoring including reporting/collection of PAN India communication network of ISTS as well as state-level system including cross border links at the national level.
The scope of the project covers supply and installation of main & backup National-UNMS system hardware and software along with associated items at respective national & regional UNMS setup. The new system shall be deployed in such a way that the operation of the existing systems should not be disturbed, it is learnt.
It is further learnt that the project also entails development of complete database, displays and reports either from scratch or by extracting existing database, displays and reports, also for creating integrated national communication system overview and inter regional system details for the modules including outage management and ticketing modules for regional and national communication system.
