PGCIL begins commercial operations on Sikar TBCB project

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) has announced that its TBCB subsidiary “Powergrid Sikar Transmission Ltd” has received notification for commercial operation.

In a brief stock exchange filing, PGCIL said that Powergrid Sikar Transmission Ltd received notification for commercial operation for its TBCB project on January 22, 2025, which becomes the date of commercial operations (DOCO) for the project. The project was however fully commissioned earlier, on December 19, 2024.

PGCIL was the selected developer under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) for this interstate transmission system (ISTS) project housed under “Powergrid Sikar Transmission Ltd” and which is officially referred to as “Transmission system strengthening scheme for evacuation of power from solar energy zones in Rajasthan (8.1 GW) under Phase-II Part-C.”

Bid process coordinator: REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL)
Date of SPV formation: June 11, 2020 [as wholly-owned subsidiary of RECPDCL]
Date of SPV acquisition: June 4, 2021
New name of SPV post acquisition by PGCIL: Powergrid Sikar Transmission Ltd
Scheme: Transmission system strengthening scheme for evacuation of power from solar energy zones in Rajasthan (8.1 GW) under Phase-II Part-C
Project location: Rajasthan
Annual tariff: Rs.1637.05 million
Date of CERC transmission licence: May 27, 2022
Original commissioning date: December 4, 2022
Actual commissioning date: December 16, 2024
Reason for delay: Constraints relating to GIB (Great Indian Bustard) inhabitations in Rajasthan
Transmission infrastructure: 888 ckm of lines; 3,000 MVA of transformation capacity
Key project elements: 765/400kV, 2×1500 MVA Sikar-II AIS substation; 765kV D/C Bhadla-II PS to Sikar-II substation (618 ckm); 400kV D/C Twin HTLS Sikar-II to Neemrana (270 ckm); bay extension works at Bhadla-II PS and Neemrana substation.
Project objective: Part of the overall scheme envisaging evacuation of 8.1 GW renewable energy from RE areas in Rajasthan including Bhadla (1.05 GW), Fatehgarh (2.2 GW), Ramgarh (1.9 GW) and Bikaner (2.95 GW)
