Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) has announced the commissioning of an intrastate transmission scheme in Uttar Pradesh.

In a brief stock exchange filing, PGCIL said that the intrastate transmission scheme housed under project SPV “Powergrid Meerut Simbhavali Transmission Ltd” was fully commissioned on November 4, 2023.

The scope of the intrastate transmission scheme is “Construction of 765/400/220 kV GIS substation, Meerut with associated lines and 400/220/132kV GIS substation, Simbhavali with associated transmission lines.”

Bid process coordinator PFC Consulting Ltd had incorporated the project SPV as “Meerut Simbhavali Transmission Ltd” in June 2019 and the same was acquired by PGCIL on December 19, 2019 after it emerged as the successful bidder under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) mechanism.

Apart from the new 765kV GIS substations at Meerut and the 400kV GIS substation at Simbhavali, the project entailed associated transmission lines such as:

  • 400kV double-circuit (twin moose) from 400kV Simbhavali substation (new) to Muradnagar-II substation in Ghaziabad (existing)
  • 400kV double-circuit (twin moose) from 400kV Simbhavali substation (new) to 765kV Meerut substation (new)

PGCIL in Uttar Pradesh

According to information available with T&D India, PGCIL is developing at least three other intrastate schemes in Uttar Pradesh, which it has won under the TBCB route:

  • Powergrid Gomti Yamuna Transmission Ltd
  • Powergrid Rampur Sambhal Transmission Ltd
  • Powergrid Jawaharpur Firozabad Transmission Ltd

Besides, PGCIL is also a contender for the intrastate scheme housed under “Meerut Shamli Power Transmission Ltd”.

UPPTCL

State transmission utility Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (UPPTCL) has been actively engaging the services of PFC Consulting Ltd (PFCCL) and REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL) as bid process coordinator (BPC) for developing of intrastate transmission schemes, under the TBCB route. Apart from PGCIL, Adani Group is also in the intrastate power transmission development space in Uttar Pradesh.
