Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) has commissioned a transmission scheme for evacuation of wind energy in Tamil Nadu.

In a brief stock exchange filing, PGCIL said that it has commissioned a project termed as “Evacuation of RE in Tirunelveli and Tuticorin wind energy zone (Tamil Nadu) 500 mw.”

The scheme was commissioned on December 24, 2023 and the notification for DOCO (date of commercial operations) was received on December 26, 2023, the filing added.

According to information available independently, PGCIL commissioned this interstate transmission system (ISTS) project, estimated to cost around Rs.120 crore, under the regulated tariff mechanism (RTM) route.

The investment approval for the project was accorded by “Committee of Directors on Investment on Projects” of PGCIL on March 27, 2022. At that time, the project was expected to commission by March 2023.

As reported by T&D India, as of around August 10, 2023, PGCIL was executing 31 ISTS schemes under the RTM mode. Out of this, 18 were expected to be commissioned during the residual period of FY24, which is August 11, 2023 to March 31, 2024.
