World Bank has approved and sanctioned long-term financing for the 1,125-MW Dorjilung Hydropower Project, jointly owned by Bhutan’s Druk Green Power Corporation (60 per cent) and Tata Power (40 per cent). It will be Bhutan’s largest hydropower project to be developed under the PPP model and is expected to generate over 4,500 GWh of electricity annually. About 80 per cent of the annual electricity generation will be supplied to India. Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Ltd (MPPTCL) has installed and energised an additional 500 MVA, 400/220 kV power transformer at the 400kV Badnawar substation in Dhar district, taking the total capacity of the substation to 1,130 MVA. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) has officially commissioned the nation’s first 315 MVA, 400/220/33kV synthetic ester oil-filled power transformer, the Central PSU said in a release. Unveiled at the Bhiwadi substation in Rajasthan, the unit is the largest of its kind in India by both capacity and voltage class. By replacing traditional mineral oil with a biodegradable synthetic ester fluid, the Maharatna PSU is establishing a new benchmark for fire safety and environmental sustainability in the country’s high-voltage transmission network, the release said. The project is expected to be set up in 18 months and has a concession period of 15 years (180 months). Promax Power Ltd has announced the winning of an order from Karnataka state discom Hubli Electricity Supply Company Ltd (HESCOM) for setting up a 6-MW grid-connected solar power project on BOO basis, under the RESCO model. Under the agreement, HESCOM will purchase power from the solar plant at Rs.2.97 per kWh, inclusive of taxes. The total revenue accruing to Promax Power over the 25-year contract period would be in the range of Rs.70 crore to Rs.75 crore, subject to actual generation, Promax said in a regulatory filing.
