SJVN Ltd has announced the winning of a floating solar project and a wind-solar hybrid project, in independent developments. Both projects were awarded under the tariff-based competitive bidding route.
The floating solar project of capacity 90 mw was awarded by Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Ltd (RUMSL) on BOO basis, with the winning tariff of Rs.3.26 per kwh.
The project, with an estimated investment of Rs.585 crore, will come up in the floating solar park at Omkareshwar in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh.
Power generated from the project will be sold to RUMSL under a 25-year power purchase agreement. The project will be commissioned in a period of 15 months from the PPA signing date.
Hybrid project
The 30-mw wind-solar hybrid project was won under a tender floated by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). This project too will be developed under the BOO modality.
Power will be sold to SECI, at Rs.2.54 per kwh, under a 25-year PPA. The project, with an estimated outlay of Rs.195 crore, is expected to be commissioned within 18 months from the date of signing the PPA. [Project location yet unknown.]
According to Nand Lal Sharma, “This is SJVN’s maiden endeavour in developing a hybrid renewable project. With this the company has ventured into the fastest emerging viable renewable energy option in the country. The commissioning of this project is expected to reduce 90,993 tonnes of carbon emission and will contribute in Government of India’s mission of net zero carbon emission by 2070.”

Vision
SJVN has set forth on a fast-paced journey of harnessing Renewable Energy to meet the commitment of Government of India of achieving 500 GW of installed capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030.
SJVN’s portfolio currently stands at around 31 GW, including projects under all stages of implementation. It has envisioned 5 GW of operational capacity by 2023, 25 GW by 2030 and 50 GW by 2040.
