SJVN Ltd has won a 100-mw wind power project in an auction conducted by Solar Energy Corporation Ltd (SECI).

In a release, the Central PSU said that it has won the full quoted capacity of 100 mw for a wind power project on build, own and operate (BOO) basis. The project was won at a tariff of Rs.2.90 per kwh, in an e-reverse auction.

SJVN had participated in the tariff based competitive bidding conducted by SECI for setting up 1,200 mw of wind power capacity, connected to the interstate transmission system. The bidding process initiated in the early part of 2022 was for the project officially termed as “Setting up of 1,200 mw ISTS-connected wind power projects in India (Tranche XIII).”

The 100-mw project will be developed by SJVN Green Energy Ltd (SEGL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJVN. As per the terms of the tender, the project can be developed anywhere in India.

The project, with an estimated outlay of Rs.700 crore, is expected to generate 262 million kwh (MU) in the first year of commissioning and cumulative energy generation over a period of 25 years will be about 6,574 MU. SJVN expects the project to be commissioned within 24 months from the date of signing of the power sale agreement (PSA), which, in turn, will be executed after SECI issues to the formal letter of intent to SJVN.

Green projects

SJVN, so far, has two wind power projects in its portfolio. Both in operation, these projects are located at Sadla (50 mw, Gujarat) and Khirvire (47.6 mw, Maharashtra). SJVN currently has a total power generation portfolio of 45 GW including operation and those under various stages of development. Barring the 1,200-mw Buxar thermal power project, currently under construction in Bihar, all other projects are based on clean energy – hydropower, solar and wind.
