SJVN completes tunnel excavation work of Naitwar Mori project

Nand Lal Sharma, Chairman & Managing Director, SJVN triggered the last blast to mark the completion of heading excavation of the 4.3-km head race tunnel (HRT) associated with the Naitwar Mori hydropower project in Uttarakhand.

The 60-mw Naitwar Mori hydropower project in Uttarakhand can potentially generate 265.5 million kwh of electricity annually; 12 per cent of the generation will be given to the Uttarakhand government free of cost, as royalty.

According to a release by SJVN, Sharma inspected project sites and reviewed various components of the project which included head race tunnel, barrage, powerhouse, surge shaft and a 220kV transmission Line.  He conveyed his satisfaction on the progress of all major components of the project, the release noted.

 

The Naitwar Mori hydropower project will be equipped with two vertical Francis turbines of 30-mw each. The project cost, at October 2016 price level, is around Rs.650 crore.

 

Addressing SJVN employees, Nand Lal Sharma, said, “We are glad to inaugurate the office complex with all the amenities for the upcoming Naitwar Mori HEP of SJVN. The project would further accelerate the Government of India’s commitment of providing round the clock (RTC) energy to our nation and will also lead to achievement of shared vision of SJVN, for becoming a 25,000-mw company by 2040.”

SJVN is constructing its own 220kV transmission line of about 37 km for transmission of electricity generated from the project that is targeted to be completed by April 2022.

Commissioning of the Naitwar Mori hydropower project will benefit the area and particularly the Project Affected Families as they will be provided an amount equivalent to the cost of 100 kwh of electricity per month for 10 years. SJVN is also taking up various development works in the vicinity of the project towards under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, the release added.
