SJVN Ltd has earned Rs.34.40 crore as incentive under the Demand Settlement Mechanism (DSM), the company said in a release.

The DSM was earned with respect to two of its flagship hydropower projects – Nathpa Jhakri (1,500 mw) and Rampur (412 mw) – both in Himachal Pradesh, and pertained to the first three quarters of ongoing fiscal year FY22.

Demand Settlement Mechanism (DSM) is a frequency-linked mechanism, which ensures stability of the grid. Under DSM, the power producer is entitled to incentives for maintaining grid stability. This incentive also acts as additional revenue for the generator, over and above revenue earned from power generation.

According to N. L. Sharma, CMD, SJVN, quoted in a release, SJVN is successfully operating mega hydropower projects and has been ensuring stability of the grid. “Due to the intermittent nature of energy, forecasting and scheduling of power is essential to maintain the stability and safety of the grid. A power producer is required to forecast and declare power generation schedule for each power station. SJVN is continually supporting the Grid by aligning its power generation with grid stability and security.”

Growth in incentive

The incentive of Rs.34.40 crore earned in three quarters of FY22, SJVN has surpassed the incentive earned in corresponding period of previous two financial years.  In the same period of FY20, the incentive earned was Rs.12.10 crore and in FY21, it was Rs.21.86 crore for this period.

Buxar project advances

In an independent development, SJVN’s 1320-mw Buxar thermal power project has entered advanced construction phase. On January 17, 2022, the jacking-up of ceiling girder (1,400 tonnes) for the first boiler unit was completed. With this work on installing the first boiler unit of the project will start taking shape. The entire process will be completed in four stages and in each stage, the ceiling girder will jack up and down to add pressure parts and other components to the boiler assembly, a press note from SJVN said.  Earlier this month, the dispatch of the first turbine-generator was flagged off.
