Central PSU SJVN Ltd has outlined capital expenditure of Rs.8,000 crore for the financial year 2022-23 (FY23), a company statement said.

According to Nand Lal Sharma, CMD, SJVN, “For financial year 2022-23, SJVN is targeting Rs.8,000 crore capex utilization and with several Projects under development, the company is prepared to meet this target.”

Project pipeline

SJVN’s capital expenditure has been spread over ten domestic and international projects of over 3,500 mw capacity that are in the construction stage.

Some of the projects currently under construction are:

  • Buxar thermal power project (1,320 mw, Bihar)
  • Arun-3 hydropower project (900 mw, Nepal)
  • Arun-3 transmission line (217 km, Nepal)
  • Kholongchuu hydropower project (600 mw, Bhutan)
  • Luhri-1 hydropower project (210 mw, Himachal Pradesh)
  • Naitwar Mori hydropower project (60 mw, Uttarakhand)
  • Naitwar-Mori transmission line (37 km, Uttarakhand)

“In our history of 33 years, we never had so many projects in the construction stage at any given time. New vistas and business opportunities are opening for the company, which proves that our recently re-engineered business model is working well,” noted Nand Lal Sharma.

FY22 target surpassed

Meanwhile, SJVN has surpassed its capital expenditure target of Rs.5,000 crore for the current year, FY22. The target was achieved in the first eleven months itself – standing at around Rs.5,008 crore, as of February 28, 2022. By the end of FY22, the actual capex is likely to be around Rs.5,500 crore, the statement said.

Footprint expansion

Starting with a single hydropower project – the 1,500-mw Nathpa Jhakri hydropower project in Himachal Pradesh – SJVN today has a portfolio of more than 16,800 mw that includes operational projects and those under various stages of development. With a footprint in nine India states and two neighbouring countries — Nepal and Bhutan — SJVN now holds a diversified portfolio of hydropower, thermal, wind and solar power projects. The company has also diversified into power transmission and holds a license for power trading.
