SJVN Green Energy Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJVN Ltd, has signed an MoU with Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) to incorporate a joint venture company that will set up a 1,000-mw floating solar power plant in Assam.

The upcoming project, with an estimated outlay of Rs.6,000 crore, is expected to generate 2,192 million kwh of electricity annually. During the construction and operations phase, an estimated 4,000 persons will get direct and indirect employment.

Assam potential

Assam has floating solar power generation potential of around 3,000 mw, it is estimated. Out of this, SJVN would develop 1,000 mw spread over 4500 ha of water area. This will save approximately 2,500 ha of land as floating solar power projects does not require any land levelling, removal of vegetation or any displacement.
