Background

In January 2013, SJVN signed an MoU with Bihar State Power Holding Company Ltd and Bihar Power Infrastructure Company for setting up the Buxar thermal power plant in village Chausa, Buxar district, Bihar.

SJVN took over Buxar Bijli Company Pvt Ltd (the erstwhile developer of the Buxar project) in July 2013 and changed its name to SJVN Thermal Pvt Ltd (a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN Ltd) in October 2013. Buxar Bijli Company Ltd, according to information available with T&D India, was promoted by Bihar Power Infrastructure Company Ltd, in turn a joint venture between Bihar State Electricity Board (now known as Bihar State Power Holding Company Ltd) and Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Ltd (IL&FS).
