Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power, has commissioned a 100MW/138MWp solar project in Partur, Maharashtra.

The installation comprises over 4,11,900 numbers of monocrystalline PV modules and is expected to reduce around 234 million tonnes of CO2 annually, a release by Tata Power said.

The project, spanning 600 acres of land, was executed by Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd, an EPC arm of Tata Power, within the stipulated timeline of 3.5 months.

Electricity generated from the Partur solar project will be supplied to state utility Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) under a 25-year power purchase agreement.

Expertise

TPREL’s expert team of engineers carried out synchronized activities and mobilized the workforce within a short span to ensure timely execution of the project. Within the first two months of the project, the team completed all the CMCS, switchyard, and PV area’s civil activities, and in the next one-and-a-half months also managed to complete AC readiness of all the blocks with 60 MWp of MMS installation and 50 MWp of module installation.

Testimony

“Commissioning of MSEDCL project in such a short timeframe is a testimony to Tata Power’s extraordinary project execution capabilities. It would help Maharashtra contribute to India’s ambitious renewable energy ambitions by increasing the share of renewable energy in the state’s overall energy mix,” said Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power.

Impact on capacity

With the addition of this 100 mw, the total operational renewables capacity of Tata Power now stands at 3,620 mw comprising 2,688 mw of solar and 932 mw of wind. Taking into account another 1,300 mw of renewable capacity under various stages of implementation, the total green portfolio of Tata Power is currently around 4,920 mw.

Background

In around June 2020, Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) received a letter of award from MSEDCL to develop a 100-mw solar project at Patrur in Maharashtra. TPREL won this project under a tariff-based bid announced in December 2019 by MSEDCL under Phase-V. Electricity generated would be supplied to MSEDCL under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA).

According to information available with T&D India, MSEDCL, under Phase-V of its solar bidding programme, had tendered 500 mw worth of solar power capacity out of which only 350 mw (including 100 mw to TPREL) was awarded.
