Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd announced that it successfully met the summer peak demand of 2,035 mw, on May 17, 2024.
Tata Power-DDL is expecting the peak power demand to touch a high of 2,351 MW this summer in its area of operations and for the same the company has signed power purchase agreements of up to 2,500 MW, apart from contingency arrangements, through long-term and short-term arrangements.
In 2023, the peak power demand in Tata Power- DDL’s operational area was 2,012 MW, occurring on May 23,
It is pertinent to mention that Delhi’s peak power demand is expected to touch 8,000 MW this year, the release said. This refers to the peak power demand of Delhi as a whole; Tata Power DDL caters to a population of 7 million in North Delhi.
As per IMD predictions, the temperature in the city is likely to increase in next few days and department might declare a yellow alert if the temperature continues to rise.
Advance planning
Commenting upon the same, a spokesperson of Tata Power-DDL said, “As the hot spell continues to cast over the capital, Tata Power-DDL successfully met the summer peak demand on 16th May at 1,982 MW and 2,035 MW today (17th May), the highest requirement so far in this summer season, ensuring uninterrupted power supply without any network constrain and power outages. Tata Power-DDL’s meticulous advance planning and usage of modern technologies, such as advance load forecasting and statistical & modelling techniques as well as battery energy storage systems are helping us meet the growing requirements in a seamless manner.”
