Power distribution utility Tata Power Delhi Distribution, serving a populace of 7 million in the national capital, successfully met the record peak power demand of 1,568 mw, on January 1, 2021.

This was achieved without any network constraint or power outage as Delhi clocked this season’s record high of 5,021 mw. The city has been witnessing a cold wave for the past few days, a release from Tata Power DDL said.

“Tata Power-DDL is fully committed to ensure highest level of efficacy to its consumers ensuring uninterrupted power supply. We have made surplus arrangement of up to 200 mw power over and above the expected peak demand and it will also cater to contingencies. Besides this, we are also using a mix of smart technologies like AI & Machine Learning for better load forecasting to provide reliable power supply,” according to Ganesh Srinivasan, CEO, Tata Power-DDL, quoted in the release.

The company expects the peak demand may touch 1,700 mw this winter season.

Tata Power-DDL is prepared with its action plan to provide relief, assuring 24X7 power supply to all the essential services and its consumers.

The power-supply arrangements during the winter-months by the company include long-term agreements from power-plants like Maithon Power, NTPC Stations, and Delhi based gas fuelled generating stations.

A total of 2,000 mw power is available from long-term sources with the company which would help to meet the anticipated demand, the release added.
