Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd recently organized its annual flagship event  “Urja Mela,” which had a broad aim to raise environmental awareness amongst the young population.

In a release, Tata Power-DDL said that, through the event, the utility sought to sensitize the school children on the importance of environment conservation, climate change, air pollution and promotion of renewable energy,

The broader aim of Urja Mela is to raise environmental awareness and inculcate a sense of responsibility amongst the youngsters at large.

Urja Mela witnessed participation from more than 50 Delhi schools this year– including Delhi government and private schools. The event was conducted under strict Covid-19 safety guidelines as given out by the Government of India at company’s Learning Centre in Rohini.

Over 100 prizes

This year over 100 prizes were given away. The students shared information about benefits of energy conservation, safety, air pollution climate change and ethics creatively through posters and insightful science models, slogans, drawings etc. A special category was also launched for budding entrepreneurs- ‘Show your Entrepreneurship Skills’ where students presented their Innovative Ideas. Entrepreneurship has been added as an important element because innovation as a result of entrepreneurship is necessary to reach these goals.

 Club Enerji

The participating schools are a part of Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited’s Club Enerji program that sensitizes school children for bringing societal and behavioural change in energy consumption and conservation of natural resources. The club educates and creates awareness among youth about the importance of environment and energy conservation through conservation tips, workshops and regular sessions on related topics in a unique manner, through company’s Brand Mascot- ‘Roshni’.

Tata Power-DDL, it may be recalled, launched Club Enerji program in 2004 with a few schools that has now grown to 370 Delhi government and private schools are its members. Through this initiative, the company has sensitized more than 10 lakh students so far.
