Tata Power announced the setting up of an innovative submersible power substation in south Mumbai to augment the power infrastructure in its operational area.

Occupying virtually zero space, this underground substation will be a first-of-its-kind submersible substation installed by any power distribution utility in the country, a release by Tata Power said.

Location

The substation will be installed in the parking area of the Parel Receiving Station and will support power demand load of high-rise infrastructure in the adjoining areas and ensure a continuous and reliable power supply to consumers during exigencies, including floods and storms.

Three-way RMU

The substation will have specially designed 22kV submersible duty three-way Ring Man Unit, 22kV/433V 400KVA transformer with accessories suitable for submerged operations. All terminations of the substation will also be suitable to work under submersion and will have touch-proof design technology.

The installation will be in compliance with Central Electricity Authority’s safety regulations.
