Tata Projects Ltd, in a release, said that it has won its first contract in the power T&D sector of Bangladesh.  Valued at around Rs.900 crore, the EPC turnkey contract placed by Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Ltd, involves construction of a 400kV double-circuit transmission line.

The line, spanning 120 km will run from Barapkuria to Bogura, is expected to be completed within 30 months, Tata Projects said in the release.

Project financing will be done by EXIM Bank, India, under Indian Line of Credit, the release said.

Impact

The Barapkuria-Bogura transmission line, when completed, is expected to result in expansion of high-voltage power transmission network in northern Bangladesh. The line will facilitate import of electricity from an Indian power plant located in Jharkhand, the release said.

Uniqueness

The entire transmission line will be constructed on pile foundation, Tata Projects said, adding that the line will be fully strung using high tension low sag (HTLS) conductor. This project is unique since such technologies have not yet been used in Bangladesh’s power T&D sector, the company said.
