Techno Electric & Engineering Company Ltd (Techo) has targeted to fully commission its ongoing smart metering installations under RDSS, by December 2026.
Techo currently has four ongoing projects, amounting to 2.24 million smart meters, under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). These mandates, where Techno is the AMISP, are spread across four locations – Indore (Madhya Pradesh), Ranchi (Jharkhand), Kashmir (UT of Jammu & Kashmir) and Agartala (Tripura).
In a recent investor conference held to discuss the company’s Q3FY26 results, the company’s senior management said that these four projects will be commissioned progressively between March and December 2026.
The first project to commission would be the Indore project where around 86 per cent of the 0.55 million smart meters envisaged currently stand completed. By June 2026, Techno expects to complete the Ranchi mandate where 0.53 million smart meters will be rolled out, with current achievement estimated at around 52 per cent. By December 2026, the Agartala and Kashmir project will come to fruition. (See table).
The 2.24 million meters when fully operational will result in a total revenue of Rs.2,612 crore, spread over the 120-month concession period, which includes around 27 months of construction and 93 months of O&M.
The Techno management said that while Rs.1,000 crore has been invested so far on the smart metering projects, another Rs.500 crore will be deployed till final commissioning of the four projects.
Apart from the 2.24 million smart meters currently under implementation, Techno has an operational portfolio of 0.25 million smart meters in UT of Jammu & Kashmir. These were installed through projects awarded under the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP).
The company’s management also indicated that Techno will be selective in bidding for future smart metering projects, and would rather focus on completing its under-implementation portfolio of 2.24 million smart meters.
Techno Electric has maintained its previous guidance of attaining total new order inflows of Rs.3,000 crore in FY26 (full year). As of January 31, 2026, the order inflow had reached Rs.2,163 crore, apart from Rs.706-crore worth of projects where Techno was placed L1.
As of December 31, 2026, Techo’s unexecuted order book was to the order of Rs.9,581 crore with power transmission dominating with a 65 per cent share. Of the total order book, EPC mandates from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) accounted for around 25 per cent, followed by those by Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) with a share of nearly 14 per cent. With respect to power transmission contracts, state utility Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Ltd and Resonia Ltd also had prominent shares in Techno’s order book.
Techo Electric currently has a portfolio of two under-construction interstate transmission system (ISTS) schemes awarded under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) framework.
One project, housed under “NERES XVI Power Transmission Ltd,” is taking shape in Assam, and involves 89 ckm of transmission lines and 1,400 MVA of substation capacity. With an estimated outlay of Rs.460 crore, the project is anticipated to commission by December 2026.
Another project “NERGS-I Power Transmission Ltd,” also in northeast India, was awarded to Techno in May 2024. However, it is independently learnt that this project has currently been put on hold.
It may be mentioned that NERES-XVI, upon its commissioning and subject to all requisite approvals, will be taken over by IndiGrid Infrastructure Trust (IndiGrid) as per a scheme of arrangement worked out between the two parties in August 2025. In the past, IndiGrid has acquired two operational TBCB power transmission projects developed by Techno. Both these were interstate schemes, incorporated under “Patran Transmission Company Ltd” and “Raichur Sholapur Transmission Company Ltd,” respectively. In the latter, Techno was part of a developer consortium that included Kalpataru Projects International Ltd (then Kalpataru Power Transmission Ltd) and BS Ltd (then BS Transcomm Ltd, currently under liquidation).
Techno Electric has also reached an agreement with IndiGrid with respect to two under-construction transmission projects of IndiGrid, housed under Dhule Power Transmission Ltd and Ishanagar Power Transmission Ltd. TEECL has invested in these two projects where it continues to deliver end-to-end EPC solutions.
The total value of EPC works corresponding to Techno’s own TBCB projects and the two projects of IndiGrid was around Rs.878 crore, as of December 31, 2025.
