Torrent Power records lower distribution losses in most areas

Torrent Power recorded lower distribution losses across most of its licensed and franchised distribution areas during the first three quarters (9M: April to December) of FY26.
Here are some operational highlights:
Power distribution
- Overall power purchase during 9MFY26, at 25,004 MU, was only marginally higher by 0.3 per cent than the 24,907 MU in 9MFY25.
- Overall distribution losses (weighted by power purchase) stood at 4.19 per cent in 9MFY26, improving from 4.31 per cent in 9MFY25.
- In each of three franchised areas, distribution losses in 9MFY26 were lower, year-on-year.
- The UT of Daman & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu (DNHDD) continued to be the biggest area in terms of electricity purchase. This licensed area accounted for 33 per cent of Torrent Power’s overall electricity purchase in 9MFY26.
- Distribution losses in UT of DNHDD, however, were slightly higher at 1.55 per cent in 9MFY26 as against 1.43 per cent in 9MFY25. Electricity purchase in this licensed area was 3.1 per cent higher in 9MFY26, year-on-year.
- Losses in the Bhiwandi franchised area dropped to below 10 per cent, touching 9.61 per cent in 9MFY26
- Losses in the Shil-Mumbra-Kalwa (SMK) franchised area reduced sharply from 27.45 per cent in 9MFY25 to 22.92 per cent in 9MFY26

Transmission
- Torrent Power’s ISTS-TBCB project housed under Solapur Power Transmission Ltd is scheduled to commission over the next two quarters (Q4FY26 and Q1FY27). According to information available through government agencies, the 400/220kV, 4×500 MVA Solapur substation is likely to commission by March 2026, while the associated 400kV double-circuit line of 80 ckm would do so by June 2026.
- Torrent Power would be participating selectivity in tariff-based bidding for both interstate and intrastate transmission projects, an investor presentation noted, adding that the company was also evaluating brownfield opportunities (acquisitions) to strengthen its sectoral presence.
Pumped Storage
- Torrent Power has placed key orders for its upcoming 3,000-MW pumped storage project at Raigad in Maharashtra. The Rs.14,000-crore project is scheduled to complete by October 2028, and upon commissioning, will yield annual revenue of Rs.1,680 crore.
- Including the 3-GW under construction, the company has targeted PSP capacity of 8.4 GW, spread across Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.
