Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation (Toshiba) announced that its Indian subsidiary Toshiba JSW Power Systems Pvt Ltd (Toshiba JSW) will provide a centralized monitoring system for all power generation plants of the NTPC Group.

In a release, Toshiba said that Toshiba JSW has signed a contract with NTPC Ltd for the provision of a centralized monitoring system for 165 thermal and renewable energy power plants owned and operated by NTPC or its joint ventures, including plants currently at the planning stage.

This contract marks NTPC’s first deployment of a plant monitoring solution of this kind, the release said.

Proven tracked record

Scheduled to commence operation in spring 2027, the system will also integrate EtaPRO™, Toshiba’s advanced plant monitoring software, which has a proven track record and currently supports 763 GW of power generation capacity in more than 60 countries worldwide.

AI-based analytics

This system uses AI to analyze real-time operational data collected from sensors installed in individual power plants. It delivers early detection of signs of abnormalityin plant equipment, and carries out root cause analysis to preventunwanted consequences. The system also uses the monitored data to automate and manage maintenance processes, significantly reducing the occurrence and duration of plant shutdowns. It also analyzes data accumulated over time, and uses the results to enhance the accuracy of anomaly prediction and to improve maintenance efficiency.

Digital innovation

“Toshiba JSW is driving digital transformation in power generation with EtaPRO™, an IoT platform that enhances plant efficiency and reliability,”said Daisuke Murata, Managing Director of Toshiba JSW. “With this latest order from our esteemed customer, NTPC, we are proud to contribute to India’s energy transformation journey by delivering efficient solutions, embracing digital innovation, and reinforcing manufacturing excellence. Through Make in India, and strong Toshiba Group collaboration, Toshiba JSW will continue to support sustainable and resilient energy infrastructure in India.”

Ensuring stable power supply

While India is currently responding to rapid economic growth with a national plan to expand its power generation capacity from 399 GW in 2022 to 900 GW by 2032*, there are concerns to meet current power requirements and ensure secure supply, which is driving strong demand for currently operating plants to secure stable operation and high reliability. Introduction of Toshiba’s monitoring system will enhance operational efficiency and ensure a stable power supply, while also enabling faster, more precise maintenance services, the release added.
