Honourable Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Industries & Commerce, and Legislative Affairs, Telangana, Sri D. Sridhar Babu, on August 8, 2025, inaugurated the new manufacturing facility for CRGO Core Processing Centre, and a Surge Arrester Line at the Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) Pvt Ltd (TTDI) at Rudraram, Telangana.

Sri Babu also laid the foundation stone for expansion of TTDI’s Power Transformers manufacturing line. This strategic initiative reinforces Toshiba’s long-term commitment to establishing India as its manufacturing base and export hub for transmission & distribution (T&D) business.

Impact on capacity

The newly-inaugurated Rudraram facility houses a cold rolled grain-oriented (CRGO) core processing centre with a capacity to process 12,000 tonnes of CRGO steel annually. The new facility also houses a dedicated surge arrester production line designed to manufacture 80,000 Units per year. Upon completion, EHV power transformer expansion project will increase TTDI’s overall power transformer production capacity from 30,000 MVA per year to 42,000 MVA per year. These additions will enhance TTDI’s domestic and global supply capabilities to support growing demand in India and international markets, a company release said.

Bolstering Toshiba’s domestic footprint

Mr. Hiroshi Furuta, Chairman and Managing Director, TTDI said “We are honoured to have the Honourable Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Industries & Commerce, and Legislative Affairs, Telangana, Sri D. Sridhar Babu Garu inaugurate our new facility and lay the foundation stone for our upcoming expansion, in the gracious presence of other esteemed dignitaries. Our planned investment will bolster Toshiba’s manufacturing footprint in India and contribute to local employment and skills development. We are poised to accelerate our manufacturing capabilities, improve operational efficiency, increase speed-to-market, and deliver high-quality, sustainable energy solutions for India and the world.”

Stepping up investment

Earlier this year, Sri Anumula Revanth Reddy, Honourable Chief Minister of Telangana, accompanied by Sri Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary, Industries, ITE&C, and Sports, Sri Emmadi Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, Special Secretary, Investment Promotion & External Engagement, during their visit to Tokyo, signed an MoU with TTDI to advance its previously announced investment of JPY 10 billion (Rs.562 crore) in expanding its manufacturing capabilities in the state. As part of the MoU, the proposed investment of Rs.562 crore is expected to generate over 250 direct jobs over the three years from FY2024, further contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.
