Waaree Energies, in a release, said that it has become India’s largest solar panel manufacturer. This milestone was crossed with the recent launch of its 1-GW manufacturing plant at Vapi in Gujarat. Together with the Surat plant that was established in 2007 and that has a capacity of 500 mw, the total solar panel manufacturing capacity of Waaree has reached 1.5 GW per year.

With this new plant, Waaree Energies is looking at extending current product lines as well as expanding its presence in India, and internationally. Sunil Rathi, Director, Waaree Energies Ltd. says, “Waaree Energies has been a preferred partner for the solar transformation in India, and is always seeking new avenues to enhance its capabilities to make solar power accessible to all. We have already supplied over 1.7 GW of solar panels till date, and commissioned over 500 mw of solar EPC in India. At 1.5 GW, we are now the largest solar module manufacturer in the country and are better equipped to cater to solar needs of the country, and aid the Government in achieving the solar targets set for 2022.”

Impact

The company’s new state-of-the-art facility in Vapi will manufacture 4 mw worth of solar modules per day, and is expected to create over 400 direct jobs, in addition to 1,000 indirect jobs, leading to employment of both skilled and unskilled workforce. People around the facility are trained by Waaree, to make them employable. Out of the total workforce, around 10 per cent comprise individuals from neighbouring areas.

Waaree’s reach
